I am sitting here at my desk awash with many emotions as my daughter Jessica’s wedding approaches preceded by my in-laws arriving today with my 2 youngest daughters. They are planning my soon to be son-in-law’s bachelor party, all the while my wife LaTonya is listening to wedding songs like “Butterfly Kisses” over and over again in the background.  All of this is being drowned out by my intense focus to make sure I have every reservation and detail completed that has been given me by my beautiful wife…as well as launching my newest and most revealing training to date! (More on that at the bottom of the page) I am diligently pressing to close out my work week early so as to be completely present with my family at the same time.

Speaking of emotions…I am overwhelmed by the amount of weird and random feelings of excitement mixed with deep regret and a sense of loss that seems to be a fathers cross to bear just before he gives his daughter away. This is the moment that I have rehearsed in my mind since the day my daughter was born. In just 5 short days I will be living it out in real time. The flower girl, the ring bearer, the groomsmen, the bridesmaids, family, friends, the minister, and of course Jessica and Ryan will all be waiting on me to say those dreaded FINAL words “her mother and I.”

In the blink of an eye I will give away 19 years of absolute bliss to this young man and will turn her well being and happiness over to him. WOW!

I will have to let go and allow her to be her own person and only suggest my opinion when she asks for it. I am sure Jessica and Ryan will be an amazing team. They have learned much from myself and my wife Latonya. We have taught them to be full of passion, to follow their dreams, to make sure and communicate always, to be relentless in their pursuit of happiness, and above all else to guard their hearts and to love each other the way God has shown us by example.

So why do I tell you all of this?

I want to remind you of how wonderful and important each moment is and to embrace each day with the alertness and awareness necessary to bring you moment by moment closer to the things you love and cherish. We are only here on this planet for a brief journey inward. Be in the moment now and often, embrace every single relationship like it is all you have, and allow others to feel your genuine uniqueness in every word you say and action you take.

I am so blessed to be alive and sharing this moment with YOU now and in the years ahead. Thanks for being who you are and for your friendship. I appreciate all of the kind words you share with me and the support you have so graciously given me. I close this current chapter of my life with toast to all of you my family and dear friends. May the rest of this year bring you peace and joy as well as the gift of love and personal freedom. I love you all!

The process of how you set goals is often an ignored, but crucial element. I have found that most challenges in my life come from not knowing how to begin and how to end, the steps in between are simple. Below is a little blueprint I use myself, a methodology of sorts, that I’ve found useful to help me develop and adhere to my personal and professional goals.

S.M.A.R.T.

Specific: The more clearly you define what it is you’re driving to achieve, the more clearly you can define what steps need to be taken to reach your goals. The key is to be bold, reckless even in your approach. We all require a big picture or target to aim at that we can clearly see the bulls-eye.

Measurable: You can’t improve, if you don’t know where you failed in the first place. Measuring allows for accountability and analysis. True humility and growth stem from searching with equal vigor for our greatness and our shortcomings. Both can always be improved upon. Track your results. Amateur try and professionals track.

Attainable: Set realistic objectives. If it’s your first week, you should probably expect first week results. Why invite unnecessary disappointment? If you are truly mentally prepared for whatever path is to come, you won’t hesitate to begin with. When we have a map or directions to follow we find where we are going with greater ease.

Relevant: “Stay The Course.” I say this to myself probably twice a day. If its not relevant to the task at hand, or a larger goal, it is usually not needed. Streamline your efforts. The world offers many things to side track you from your original plan or goal. Stay the course by checking to see if where someone or something is taking you fits your plan?

Time Bound: We always perform best when the deadline inches towards us second by second. We all do it. I still do from time to time. But, it seems human beings often require a little fire under our rear to get going. So be it. We all know it works! Create specific deadlines for your specific goals and offer yourself consequences if they are not met. Pain is the greatest of motivators.

It’s impossible to achieve “something” if you don’t decide what that “something” is!

At the end of the day, only one person can hold you accountable, YOU.

However, I’m not going to go easy on you. In fact, many of you will probably be some what frightened by the time you get done reading this…

And that’s a good thing.  It’s time you know the truth,
and it’s time you actually PREPARE yourself to create
real success rather than buying into the “Quick Fix”
mindset most people in our society like to entertain.

I feel it is my job as your MENTOR to push you to think like a true entrepreneur, and educate you on the REAL principles, strategies, & skills you need to develop in order to reach your goals, dreams, and aspirations. What I want to share with you today is how to SHED the “Quick Fix” mindset so many of us bring into
this business.

We all started out like infants once completely LACKING the knowledge of what it is like to run a business, get customers, make sales, maintain business relationships, market or advertise, or any of the other million things that go into being a SUCCESSFUL business owner.

Now, inevitably we have all come face to face with the reality that our “fantasies” don’t matter at all in the business world…and unless we develop some REAL skill sets we better just accept sitting on the SIDELINESthroughout this game of business.

I don’t know about you… but the sidelines are NOT in my game plan.

Here is the first difference between successful people and unsuccessful people, and if you haven’t made this decision yet then I URGE YOU to make it right now.We are all inevitably confronted with the reality that LIFE is going to demand our very best from us, and if we wish to REALLY reach the success we’ve envisioned for ourselves, we have two choices to make.

#1: You can choose to NOT meet life’s challenge.

At the point of realizing just how much work, money, time, & energy you’re going to HAVE to spend if you want even a shot at being successful…You can choose to run. Many people do this. Upon confronting the reality of success, they say “No Thanks, I don’t believe I can do it.” And thus, that belief proves to be true. Quick side note: No one quits unless they believe they can’t do it. No sane person in their right mind would QUIT on themselves and their business if they really believed they were going to make the kind of money that would set them free in life from it.

It just doesn’t happen…

I don’t care how hard you have to work or for how long. If you knew with 100% certainty that 5 years from now, if you worked your BUTT off, you’d have a 100k a month INCOME stream doing what you love… would you quit? The answer’s obvious. The only reason people quit is because they believe they can’t do it. (There in lies the biggest difference between successful people & unsuccessful people right there. Successful people BELIEVE they can do it, before they have any proof.) Unsuccessful people need “proof” before they can believe.

Here’s the 2nd option…

#2: You can choose to stay and FIGHT this battle of success, & train to become a true Warrior.

If you choose to stay and FIGHT this battle of success, then you must FULLY accept the terms of this battle. Here are the terms of this battle…

“Warrior’s Creed”

1). There is no guarantee you will survive (win) this battle. You must not fight the battle only because of your expectation of winning…only fools who don’t really have their heart in the battle do that. You must fight this battle… because this is WHO YOU ARE. You fight this battle, fully knowing you may not survive, because your will for success and freedom is who you ARE. You are a warrior. Life isn’t about some “Desired Outcome”.

It’s about how you LIVE. Your joy is in how you LIVE and in FIGHTING for your freedom. The acquisition of your freedom is just another marvelous benefit if you achieve it… but the true joy is in the fact you’re willing to DIE fighting for your freedom rather than live the sad life of someone in quiet slavery. (Let that sink in for a minute, if you’re willing to die fighting for your freedom then you are truly tasting life. If not, you’re only experiencing a fraction of life’s true flavor.)

True joy is in your WARRIOR SPIRIT, it’s in the richness & strength of your Soul. Unless you’re prepared to give success all you’ve GOT, you’re not a true warrior. And the path of success is a warrior’s path.

2). You must accept that your opponent is extremely crafty in this battle, Life and the world will SURELY demand your time, energy, money, and resources to defeat him. There are no guarantees, and it’s highly likely that your opponent (Life’s Challenges) will test you in every way imaginable to see what you’re made of. Your opponent will reveal your TRUE colors, and allow you to see if you’re really made of strength or if you’re made of excuses.

That is the purpose of this great CHALLENGE of success.

It’s to reveal whether we believe we deserve it or not, based on how WILLING we are to overcome any of the obstacles that are thrown in our path. If you quit, you never believed you deserved the freedom of success to begin with.

3).  You must accept that to win this battle, you must be highly skilled.

Only a fool charges into battle with no sword, no shield, no training, and no skills… when his enemy is HIGHLY skilled. Are you a fool? I doubt it. But if so, I am here to change that.

The unskilled man will be slayed very quickly in battle. The skilled man has a fighting chance, although it’s likely he will be slayed as well. The highly skilled man, the individual who has perfected their craft through PURE time, energy, money, and practice is the only one with a fighting chance at SLAYING their opponent. (Life’s Challenges) And in fact, the more your skills increase, the more your chance of SLAYING your opponent with ease increases as well. (The highly skilled warrior becomes FLAWLESS, and can win the battle of success with such ease the average man can’t understand it. Yet it’s really just the warrior’s commitment to the process that has given him his power.) The trained “Warrior” will eat other poor, foolish opponents for breakfast, who either through courage or ignorance were daring enough to charge into battle without skills. (don’t let that be you)

If you are going to stay and fight this battle for your freedom… then you must accept right now that it is your DUTY to train. It’s your DUTY to be skilled. It’s your DUTY to practice. It’s your DUTY to invest your money, your time, & your energy…in becoming a WARRIOR. You are living in a pipe dream if you think anything else is going to equip you with the abilities to win this battle. And when it comes to mentors…No “Worthy” mentor worth their salt would share their secrets with you for nothing. Only a fool believes everything in life should be free. All intelligent & wealthy people realize that everything in life is a value exchange. If you are lucky enough to find a true mentor who is willing to take you under their wing, and actually knows what they are talking about, and has PROVEN it from experience, not theory…Then you should do anything you can to study under their tutelage.

You should humbly put aside everything you think you know, and allow yourself to become a SPONGE again. Similar to the way you were when you were first born… go back to your infancy. Allow the world to become a brand new, mysterious place…full of WONDER & incredible teachings to gain. Accept you do NOT know how to achieve the full freedom you want. If you did… you’d be the one teaching.  And then humbly clear space to receive the teaching of your mentor.

This is the path of the WARRIOR.

Just so you know, The process of creating success is extremely interconnected to the path of the Warrior. This warrior’s path isn’t just a bunch of jargon, it’s DEEPLY connected to the success principles embodied by most of our world’s wealthiest people. The problem I see often, is that most people are NOT warriors. They are average men and woman. They approach success with their same old habits, mindsets, and knowledge…Fully FAILING to realize that this will get them no where amongst a path that is immensely more difficult than the life most average people have to live. The average person wakes up, eats some food, goes to work where some else tells them what to do all day…They make enough money to live. Hopefully comfortably. Then they come home and watch TV which is another person telling them what to think all day. In essence, the average person has almost zero autonomy.

Others tell them what to do and what to think most of their life.

However, when you come into the world of success… that no longer works. It’s no longer good enough for some one to tell you what to do, and how to think all day. Now you must do it for YOURSELF. Once you are confronted with this reality of success… you realize, “Wait a minute, NO ONE else is going to do this for me.” “This is ENTIRELY up to me.” And it’s true.  No one else is ever going to be successful for you. No One. You are now in TOTAL control of the outcome of your actions. You are now in FULL responsibility for everything you create… completely. This is about the time the average person begins getting scared. Because total accountability means you have no one else to blame for your life. That’s scary to the feebleness of our minds. Warriors get scared too. But, the difference between warriors and average people is that when a warrior gets scared…

They do not let that emotion control them.

Average people let their emotions rule their lives. Warriors Rule their emotions.

The point of the “Warriors Creed” that I’m sharing with you today is this…

#1: The reason you can feel my sternness and TOUGH love in today’s post is because I’ve had it with my students approaching success from a feeble minded position. I want you to have a FULL understanding of what it’s going to take you for you to reach success. If you APPROACH this world of success FULLY prepared for the battle of your life, and commit to fighting it for everything you’re worth, do you think that’s going to increase your chances of winning?

Of course it is.

Rather then be like so many others out there… “It’s so easy!” (ironically it is but only after you’ve become a warrior)…I’d rather tell you the TRUTH so you approach the battle with a FULL mindset prepared, to work and learn for all your worth, so you actually develop the skills to CRUSH your opponent with ease, & reach your goal of freedom in life. The Warrior NEVER opts to take the easy way out. The warrior WILLFULLY chooses the most difficult path, because he knows that through this path he’s going to gain more strength than the average man can fathom.

That’s what I want for you.

That’s the difference between you learning from me, and just about 99% of everyone else out there in our industry.  I want to turn you into a Warrior. I want you to be so fully prepared for this battle of success…that flat out nothing can stop you. I want you to be so equipped with the correct skill sets to WIN this battle of success…that you lay waste to all your obstacles. I don’t ever want you to shrivel up in fear when confronted with challenges. I want you to pull from your mental & tactical war chest anytime you need to…Any of the potent skills I taught you, so that you can overcome ANY obstacle the foe of challenge will present to you along your path.

That’s why I do what I do.

Because I know that by teaching you the true warrior’s path, and candidly sharing the immense knowledge that I’ve gained from waging SERIOUS battle in business and life…You will prosper. The beautiful thing about the warrior’s path, is that since the warrior approaches LIFE within this framework…No matter what he experiences it’s there to serve the purpose of his GROWTH. It is there to refine his skills…To make him into a more well trained, developed warrior…And the more that happens, the more FREEDOM & personal power the warrior gains to live their life as they desire. To live their life in the true joy, and peace, that comes as a fruition of their chosen path. You always have the choice how you approach to perceive your life. You always get to choose whether or not you will be a WARRIOR, or an average man/woman. You will always get to choose whether you FIGHT for freedom…or succumb under the pressure of challenges. I am merely here as a guide to help those of you who really WANT to taste true freedom… actually taste it. I will use in my arsenal, a variety of tactics to help you do this. Some serve the purpose of kicking you in the butt. Some serve the purpose of teaching you incredible skills. Some serve the purpose of helping you make decisions that are good for you. But no matter what… they all come from the intention of bettering your life, and assist you to become a true “Warrior” capable of winning this battle of Freedom.

In my last post I let you in on my secret “Pyro confession”

and the news that I was going to fulfill my childhood dream

of running a fireworks stand…it went really well and my

kids and I had a blast! It was alot of work and my daughters

all learned some valuable lessons on how to run a business.

I was so proud of my 3 girls…they all took turns running the

register, stocking the shelves, and watching the tent, as well as

assisting customers in making the right purchases.

I was grinning from ear to ear as they all 3 diligently treated

the business as if it were their own. They gave it all they had

from sun up to sun down for 4 full days and we bonded on so

many awesome levels. It was a truly priceless moment to share

with my kids.

On the 4th of July I had a goal to be totally sold out and hanging

out with my family and friends by no later than 10 pm. It worked

and by 10 pm I was setting up my annual “PYRO Display.” It all

begins with my brother and I setting out about 200 or so different

types of fountains and large shot cakes, all the while setting up

about 6 to 10 artillery shell tubes. We also unwrap each fuse and

space each item just far enough apart that we can light them

in a specific order. It is about a 45 minute set up for around 5 to

7 minutes of pyrotechnic fun and awe inspiring eye candy. It is

all very worth it. To see the sheer amazement and the excitement

on the faces of those watching is reward enough. My wife and kids

look forward to that moment each year as much as I do. I love the

fact that I can be a kid myself for this moment and bring them so

much joy at the same time. Holidays are so wonderful because

they are another great excuse to be yourself and spend time with

those you love the most…

Family is such an awesome blessing.

I am currently at 26 days and counting

till I will walk my oldest daughter Jessica

down the isle. Yes, Jessica is getting

married on August 7th 2010!

It is all happening so fast.

Yesterday she was a baby girl helpless in my lap and now she is a

grown woman with her own plans, ideas, bills,

and mailing address. We started moving her things into her soon

to be new home this week. Her husband to be Ryan will start living

there as of this Wednesday. My home has turned into “Wedding

Central.” It is totally crazy! I am surrounded by flowers, ivy, ribbons,

and lace. I feel like the “Wicker Man” in an anti-man society.

There seems to be no escape from this world of wedding plans,

wedding showers, and women. Every action, thought, word, and

question is connected to this wedding. I am eating, sleeping,

breathing, and paying for this wedding. I am often reminded of the

movie ”Father of the bride.” I now understand how he felt and acted.

I am truly proud and excited about it. I am just simply a man trapped

in a woman’s world for the moment.

Actually, the targeted focus and deadline mentality that I am seeing

in my wife and daughter are wonderful. It is this exact type of energy

and focus that has always assisted me in accomplishing my goals.

Without a clear defined goal and a serious deadline in place none of

us will achieve anything of great reward. We are drivin by deadlines

and are at our best creative state when we know exactly what we are

aiming for and how long we have to do it. So often I see people in life

and business just kind of going through the motions without really

being truly focused and engaged.

I took my daughter to someone this week to get some work done

for her and the person behind the counter…who was the manager…

acted as if it was a burden to receive more work and another sale.

I was blown away at the apathy and sense of dis-content I and my

daughter were being exposed to. Sad to be honest…especially when

there is so much competition for my dollar in the industry we were

seeking assistance in.

This reminds me of how I have felt so many times on the treadmill at

the gym. I do understand feeling like there is no end in site and like

what I am doing is going no-where. Over time and after many personal

achievements I have come to realize that all of my efforts and actions

compound to create exactly what I desire. It is simply a matter of

staying the course in the moment not focused on how much I have

already done…but, I instead focus on how far I have to go and how great

I will feel when I accomplish my goal. Follow me here…you and I are

never going no-where…on the other hand we are in fact always now-here!

You will notice that all I did was place the dash in a different spot in the

word and it takes on a different perspective. I am showing you how

important it is to stay in the moment and focus on what is just in

front of you…not behind…and not too far ahead. When we are in the

moment we have all that we need to feel good, be free, and create

our dreams.

I share all of this with you first to stay in touch and let you know what

is going on in my life and second to preface my newest and most influential

I know crazy right? Yes, I am a PYRO at heart.

Worry not though my friends I am not going to

burn your house down. At least not on purpose

MY FIREWORK STAND

Anyway, I remember being around 10 years old

when my parents moved me to Fort Wayne, Indiana.

I had never been to the mid-west and had to adapt to

the sultry heat and embrace the idea of wearing

deodorant. For some reason when you are young the

idea of putting extra junk on your body is like taking a

bath. I love them both now of course. Anyway, growing up

in Arizona I never was around fireworks. They are still illegal

out there and they do not sell them anywhere. I did enjoy the

yearly fireworks display from my parents car in downtown

Phoenix. You watch them from your car and then off you go

back to regular life. Little did I know that the very move I had

been resisting would align me with my earliest known passion

in life…FIREWORKS! They sell them by the truckloads out of

tents and back then even little portable food stands were used

to sell poppers, m-80’s, snakes, sparklers, and much more.

It was a feast of pyro passion to a young lad as myself.

I wondered often back then what it would be like to own and

Now, you may be thinking Jerry what is your point here?

Well, I am fulfilling one of my childhood dreams of running

my own fireworks stand right now as you read this email.

It is so cool to realize and accomplish your dreams no matter

how big or small. I feel like a kid again on the inside. The only

thing kids do not consider is the time and investment involved
let alone the hard work. I decided this year to take the plunge

into this venture now that I have the extra time and resources to

play out this fantasy.

Why am I sharing this with you?

I thought it might be really cool to invite you to visit my tent and

say hello if you live within the Joplin, Mo. area and maybe even

partake in the great “World Class” brand fireworks I am selling.

I figured you were probably going to buy them somewhere and

thought why not get them from me? I will treat you right…and as

a pyro can tell you pretty much anything you want to know about

a certain kind of firework. I have been putting on cool mini firework

displays since I was 16. Every year I blow about $500 to $1000.00

in fireworks. I know it is a waste but, it is so much FUN! I am just a

kid stuck in a 38 year old body ya know.

Yep that’s right…“My Fathers day Confession”

First of all my Fathers Day weekend was supposed to start

early on Friday morning at about 10 am. I went to “Roaring

River State Park” with a couple of friends to hike, fish, and

camp out for a couple of days. Friday is my normal day to

finish up and close out any unfinished business before noon

and then I spend the weekend with my family.

So here is my 1st confession:

I didn’t even pack or get ready till just before leaving at 4 pm

not 10 am…(I could not seem to pry my attention away from

my business)…I was so involved in trying to finish up some

cool additions to my blog and getting last minute details

worked out on an order I was making for my fireworks stand

that I completely blew most of my Friday free time on business.

This also proved to be a thorn in the side of my friends who

waited all afternoon for me to pick them up as I was chosen

as the one to drive cause I have the best vehicle to carry us

all there with our camping gear. Bad move on my part..right?

I was so focused on getting work done that I completely ignored

my friends feelings and concerns in order to accomplish my goals.

I am a very driven individual and it can sometimes create stress

for those I love. We did get to our campsite before dark however

and had a great time.

2nd Confession:

On Saturday afternoon we were caught off guard by a torrential

rainstorm. It was sunny 5 minutes earlier and then blammo!

Total chaos insued upon our little affair. We threw all our food,

clothes, tent, sleeping bags, misc. stuff, including our now

drenched selves into my suburban and headed back home.

If that wasn’t enough it seemed that during our time at the

campground a bunch of flies decided to make a new temporary

home in my vehicle. So, we drove home wet all the while being

violated by an army size swarm of nasty flies dancing, singing,

and attacking us at will. This would seem enough punishment right?

Well, I failed to mention that this is my wifes prize vehicle. When I

got home the sun was out in full force. Gradually what started out

being a fun guys weekend in the wilderness brought out the beast

in my poor unsuspecting wife. The heat mixed with wet carpet and

damp food, then throw in an army of flies and you have a very mildewed,

messy, smelly, horrible mess! I am still in the dog house on this one.

LaTonya is a really compassionate, loving, caring, and patient woman.

I am still alive and she did let me sleep in the house Saturday night.

3rd Confession:

On Sunday afternoon following an already eventfull weekend I did what

my kids wanted too and took them to the park to play tennis. Now granted

they are younger and less experienced than I at the game. So, needless

to say I took advantage of my leverage and played 12 straight games in a

row beating my kids and my soon to be son-in-law every time. I never let

up for even 1 second to give them an edge at all. I just played my heart

out not really considering letting them win once. I am very competetive

and am unstoppable when I set my mind on winning. So, again I was

focused on what I could get out of the moment. I love my kids so very much

and want for them to be good, caring, and giving adults. I hope that they do

what I tell them more often than what they see from me…ya know?

You might be asking yourself…what is the point Jerry?

We all have our shortcomings and sometimes let our own desires get in the

way of our consideration of other peoples feelings and needs. We sometimes

are like those flies I was battling all the way home in my vehicle. We are so

focused on what we want to see happen or what we need that like those flies

we trample on and violate the people we most care about. It shows up in how

we market, sell, and attempt to close business as well. We all including me

must take a step back from time to time and make sure to reflect on how

the decisions we are making will affect those around us and in our sphere of

influence. Just focusing on our wants and needs can put enmity between those

people we may have otherwise been able to collaborate with, done business with,

or simply been great friends or supporters. So, the moral is…lets all be more aware

of and consider who we are affecting with our thoughts, actions, and choices

regardless if it is family, friends, or business.

That’s my confession and challenge for this week and I trust you will do likewise.
